Merkley Statement on Confirmation of Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State
Washington, DC – Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley today joined ninety-three members of the U.S. Senate in confirming New York Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Merkley issued the following statement:
“I am very proud to cast a vote today in support of the nomination of Senator Hillary Clinton. Senator Clinton has long been a role model to so many, particularly the millions of women and girls who have been inspired by her career and historic presidential run. She is extraordinarily well-qualified to help steer our nation in addressing a number of world challenges, including two wars, global climate change and an international economic meltdown. I am sorry to lose her voice in the Senate but I know that her leadership at the State Department will be instrumental in restoring our relationships and reputation in the world.”
