WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after House Republicans voted to move forward with negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the GOP tax plan:
“Republicans just voted to move forward on raising taxes on millions of working Americans. They voted to move forward toward ripping health care away from 13 million of their constituents. They voted to move forward with making student loans more expensive and ensuring graduate school is unaffordable for all but the wealthiest students. And they did this all to shower massive giveaways on the richest Americans and powerful corporations.
“If any version of this horrific bill is allowed to become law, it will haunt America for decades to come. It’s up to every American who believes in the ‘We the People’ vision of our democracy to act now and stop this bill before it gets to the President’s desk.”
