Merkley Statement on Signing of Healthy Kids Bill
Portland – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement to congratulate Oregon leaders on the signing of the Healthy Kids Bill. Merkley, a former speaker of the Oregon House, fought for similar reforms in the state legislature.
“Even during tough times, Oregon leaders have found a way to expand health care coverage for Oregon’s children. This is an extraordinary achievement. Oregonians should be proud of our state leadership for insuring that our next generation receives the health care it needs. Earlier this year, Congress passed the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which provides more than 40,000 children in our state with health care coverage. With state and Congressional leaders making so much progress, we are well on our way to revamping our health care system so it works for every American.”
