Portland, OR – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley on March 7 will hold town halls in Marion and Clackamas counties, and in light of more Oregonians testing positive for COVID-19, encourages people who would like to attend but feel unwell to participate through a live stream online rather than attending in person.
COVID-19 can be spread through personal contact, close proximity, and through surfaces. The virus can be killed with soap and disinfectant, but in order to protect at-risk populations, the senator is encouraging folks who may feel ill to help avoid any possible transmission. Marion or Clackamas county residents who are concerned about their own health risks or about attending large public events are also welcome to participate through the live stream.
Merkley will be live streaming both town halls on his Facebook page, Facebook.com/jeffmerkley. Viewers can tune in on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to watch the Marion and Clackamas County town halls. If folks have questions during the town hall, they are welcome to comment on Facebook, or to follow up after the town hall by sending emailed questions through Merkley.Senate.Gov/Contact.
The senator will update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C., and answer their questions and invite their suggestions about how to tackle the challenges facing Oregon and America.
“Hearing from Oregonians across the state is critical to doing my job,” Merkley said. “Whether it’s getting disaster aid for winegrowers in the Willamette Valley whose grapes were damaged by wildfire smoke, or saving Timber Lake and other Civilian Conservation Corps, or fighting to preserve the promise of DACA for our state’s Dreamers, the ideas and priorities I hear about in town halls inform the solutions that I fight to get into federal law. I look forward to these discussions about how we can strengthen our state and our nation.”
Since joining the Senate in 2009, Merkley has held a town hall in each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year. These town halls will be his 418th and 419th as a U.S. Senator. Details are below.
