In the face of the damage that wildfires, hurricanes, landslides, tornados, and flooding have wrought on national parks, wildlife refuges, and national forests across the country during the past two years, Senator Merkley made the case for restoration and repair of public lands and infrastructure during a Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing titled, “A Review of Disaster Funding Needs.” Buildings, roads, bridges, communications systems, and other public infrastructure that local communities rely on have been damaged or destroyed during extreme weather events, hurting local economies and harming treasured parks and forests that have millions of visitors each year.

Senator Merkley spoke in support of Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) that would block U.S. offensive arm shipments to Israel amid tens of thousands of deaths and restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza.

The three JRDs, introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders and cosponsored by Merkley, are expected to come up for a vote in the U.S. Senate this week.
